THE YEARNING OF OUR HEART

When you yearn to gulp a big  chocolate ice-cream, nothing else matters!

There is no disagreement about that. Okay, maybe not chocolate ice-cream for you but I’m sure you have cravings that leave you aggressively incomplete until you pacify them in some way.

To yearn means to have an intense longing for something, something that one has lost or has been separated from, for a long time.

As the world celebrates love, there are many incomplete hearts who are yearning.

If you were to pause and listen to the echo of your heart you would realize that your heart yearns…

Your heart yearns for Acceptance…

You want to be accepted just the way you are. In reality, you exactly know who you are. You know your insecurities. You know your faults and your greatest victories and though you want to keep the good part at the forefront, the bad part of your life holds you back and makes you fear rejection. Your heart yearns to live in freedom, to be loved and to let go.

But rejection has been or is a part of your reality and you can’t deal with it because originally your heart was made to be accepted  and it yearns for that acceptance.

Your heart yearns for Allegiance…

Some call it loyalty, some call it faithfulness but deep down it’s a desire to belong to someone with a strong assurance. Your desire is for constancy that can’t be easily altered. Your heart wants to belong to someone and your heart wants someone to belong to it and you find this struggle enacted as you claim friendships and people for yourself. You wait eagerly with anticipated breath to be a part of someone’s story. But disloyalty, hurt, and pain may have been a part of your story and you can’t come to terms with it because your heart was created to experience allegiance and it yearns for that allegiance.

Your heart yearns for Abundance…

It yearns for a feeling of bliss. Though you know that no one is perfect, your heart still believes in perfection when it comes to relationships. In fact, your heart longs for an abundance that is timeless, like something that lasts forever. You try and place your fingers on commitments and relationships and then you realize how temporary and sparse they are.

And though we know that these yearnings leave us incomplete, we still yearn.

St. Augustine prayed very meaningfully, “O Lord, our heart is restless until it rests in you.”

You are restless because you are created to yearn. These yearnings of your heart are embedded into your DNA. These yearnings are divine in nature. God, our creator, has placed them in us.

When you think about the yearnings of acceptance, allegiance, and abundance, they can be perfectly satisfied in our Love relationship with God only :

  1. God accepts us just the way we are (Romans 5:8 – But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.) We may be wrong or right but God accepts us just the way we are.  His love is unconditional.
  2. God is faithful to us (Psalm 40:1 – “As for you, O LORD, you will not restrain your mercy from me; your steadfast love and your faithfulness will). We may lack the allegiance that we desire ourselves but God is always faithful. His love is loyal.
  3. God’s love is forever (Jeremiah 31:3 –  The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness). The love that we experience is temporary, but our relationship with God is an eternal cosmic love story that is not limited by time and space. His love has no beginning and no end. His love is everlasting.

The yearning of our hearts, is just a reflection of the fact that, we are all searching for a bit of eternity in our temporary world.

It’s a reflection of our soul searching.

The yearning of our hearts will only become a reality when we experience the enormity of God’s unfailing, unending and unconditional love.
